The assignment here was to create a simple, fun activity that would work well in an amusement park or arcade. The technology we were paired with was audience interaction, which is a fancy way of saying that a camera points at the audience, and does image processing to let the audience as a whole control the action.
When brainstorming things to do, someone brought up the little known fact that in the classic game Nintendo game Duck Hunt, the second controller could control the duck, making it a sort of competitive game. We took the idea and ran with it to make our own version of Duck Hunt where the audience collectively controls the duck by leaning to the left and right. We originally wanted it to be competitive in the audience by giving several members laser pointers and let them be the hunters, once again in needing to collectively point on the duck to score a hit. However, that got too complicated and the idea gave way to having a single hunter who would theatrically play it up and make sure that the audience could win in the end.
The game was great fun, though it's hard to describe without seeing the video, so check it out.
This project was considered for inclusion in the end-of-semester show, but was not accepted.
